For Prospective Undergraduate RAs

We will be looking for several Research Assistants for Spring 2024 and beyond. See below for information and application. Preference will be given to those who are juniors or below (i.e., people who will not be graduating until Spring 2025 or later), and who can make a 1 year commitment!

Undergraduate research assistants are an essential part of the Treating Emotional and Motivational Processes Transdiagnostically (TEMPT) laboratory!

Research assistants have the opportunity to be involved in all stages of the research process. RAs run participants through research protocols, including both online studies, ecological momentary assessment studies, and laboratory based studies. Because we study emotion, we are often trying to intentionally make participants upset in the lab! RAs are also part of discussions about research design, which are heavily informed by Dr. Veilleux and the graduate students therapy work. We do not *yet* do treatment research, but our research informs clinical practice. At this time we are particularly interested in prospective research assistants with a theater/acting background OR willingness/eagerness to explore hidden drama desires! (Note: acting history or desires are not necessary for consideration.)

RAs in the TEMPT lab are encouraged to present research at local, regional, or national conferences. This most often involves secondary data analysis of existing data, under the supervision of Dr. Veilleux and/or one of the graduate students. We recommend that because getting conference experience is helpful (sometimes crucial, depending on the program) for being competitive for graduate school!

We typically request that an RA devote around 9 hours a week to laboratory work, which corresponds to 3 credit hours. First semester TEMPT RAs will be required to register for 207V credit, credit after the first semester is negotiable. Specific hours will depend on the studies being run and other needs of the research team. Lab hours include a mandatory 1-hour per week lab meeting, with meeting time scheduled based on the availability of all personnel, though it has been at 3pm on Thursdays for the last several years. Lab meetings include discussion of current projects, article reading, professional development activities (e.g. graduate school information sessions, tutorials on writing personal statement or writing an academic CV), hearing talks from grad students and statistical tutorials in SPSS and R.

Please view the TEMPT Research Assistant Information for RA duties, expectations and desired characteristics.

Interested students should fill out the TEMPT Research Assistant Application and submit either a paper copy to Dr. Veilleux’s mailbox (Memorial Hall outside Room 216) or email an electronic version to Dr. Veilleux at (jcveille@uark.edu).
